Institution

We have decided that we would like our film to follow the British Independent institution, we have decided this as we would like our media text to reject some of the typical horror conventions and make it personal. The British Independent film institution is a lot different from the Hollywood institution, this is because Hollywood institutions have very big budets to make their films (100 million) whereas the British institution uses smaller budgets (5 million) as they are not broadcast as much as Hollywood films. Most people recognise Hollywood films as they are advertised massively whereas British films don't have such a big budget and therefore are not able to advertise as much. British films also show realism and are more Hollywood films show surreal things which dont usually go on. Other similar products from this type of institution are films such as Kidulthood (Stealth and Cypher Pictures), which even though isn't a thriller it is a British film. I have chosen this as an example because it shows what life is really like and it interests the audience because of how realistic it is. In the film it shows the characteristics of the institution because, they use simple settings as they only have a small budget, but these simple settings work really well in the film, also the actors are not very famous which is a common thing in most British films as they cannot afford a-list actors. Also most Britsh films have quite complex plots and have many storylines going on at one time but they are all origianl storylines which interests audiences as they do not know what the outcome will be. Even though the audience is niche it still attracts a lot of people to watch them.
